Online dating offers you thousands of women in any given area but you can blow it with all of them if you make the wrong decision on a date. The concept of chivalry is alive and well but you can take it too far if you’re not careful, which would be screwing up your best online dating experience. Doing so can turn a woman off or convince her that you’re a jerk, a show off, a creep, a player, and more. How do you know which rules of chivalry to follow? I’ll tell you.
Paying for everything is to be avoided
Paying for dinner or a ticket to the movie theater is a lovely gesture certain to be appreciated but when you take it to an extreme extent you quickly go from sweet to a showy jerk. If you want to take her shopping or offer to pay for a day at the spa for her you’re flaunting your money more than you’re being sweet. You might have the best of intentions but going wild with treating her to everything sends all the wrong messages.

A gentleman opens the car door for his lady
This one is and always will be welcome (for all but the most hardcore of feminists). You open the door for people every day, right? Why not extend the same courtesy to your date? The fact that you have to walk around to the other side of the car adds a little extra niceness to the gesture and should score you extra points. It’s those little things that tend to go a long way in building a successful relationship and establishing yourself as a chivalrous gentleman.
Forget about florid love letters
There was a time when love letters were considered a must for every chivalrous gentleman to send to the lady he was courting. That time has passed. In an age where we’re all just a text away the love letter has become a clichÈ and the purview of jerks and players. It might sound surprising but the most likely reaction is that the girl or her friends are going to think that the letter is all part of your game to ensure sex for as long as you want it before you kick the girl to the curb. That’s tough dating advice but it’s worth following if you want success.
Act like a man on a date
That sounds like vague dating advice but it’s right on the mark. Part of being chivalrous is being a man and not in a misogynistic way. Instead of asking if it’s okay to kiss her at the end of the date just go for it. If she doesn’t want to kiss she’ll turn and give you the cheek. When you walk through the restaurant place your hand on the small of her back and guide her to your table, a bar stool, your table at the club, etc. On the sidewalk ensure that you’re on the outside so you’re the one to get run over if a car gets out of control. They’re small things but they’re manly things that light up a woman’s subconscious, signaling that you’re the kind of guy that she wants to spend the night with.
Don’t patronize your date
This dating advice should be obvious. Don’t patronize her. Don’t let her win at a game because you want her to feel good. Don’t laugh at something that’s not funny. Don’t agree with her just because you want to be nice. Be yourself, in other words. If she doesn’t want to date the real you then move on to someone else.
Your online dating experience will be more successful if you follow these useful pieces of dating advice and put the practices of chivalry to use in the modern world.
